Post storm update.
We hope this update finds you all well. This last month has been a mixed bag with a tropical storm, followed by Ida one week later. We did suffer some damage on the trail. The most obvious is shown in the photo above of the Northern access bridge. The photo was taken from the bridges original landing point. On the flip side the rest of the trail held up amazingly well. Last Saturday the trail crews cut up 4 downed or damaged trees and reset 3 Bog bridges to their original locations.
This brings us to the next obvious question, what is the available trail access? The short story is, for now, we have two trails. The first from the Preston parking lot: this trail has the field loop and the walk to the missing bridge all together 1.25 miles. The second is utilizing the new access point from the red barn on RT 117. From that access you have the ability to use the rest of Tri-Town trail.
The goal for a crossing reconstruction completion is by the end of next weekend 9/12/21
The above slide show is views from the field loop. For all who have not checked this out yet now would be one of the best times to do that, the golden rod are in bloom and a sun set walk is something magical at this time of year.
Below are the images of this weekends trail recovery and bridge salvage project.
With the large amount of effort put into this weekends work, the only remaining portions of the trail recovery are rebuilding a new crossing and recovering the deck of the old bridge. The old bridge deck will be repurposed to help with the new crossing. The trail committee has already purchased the materials for the new bridge and construction will be ongoing all week. If you would like to assist in this project please contact us on this website. If you you want to help but don’t want to commit time or money, hiking the trail is very helpful. Trail use keeps down the amount of maintenance required.
One more reminder the upcoming Grand (Re?)Opening is October third. We would love to see as many people as possible. Please rsvp under events so we can be adequately prepared. We can’t wait to meet you all.
