Trail Access Restored!
A safe crossing has been restored. With all the ground work that was laid out by the mid-week work crew, Saturday’s build and restoration were a major success. Today we were able to recover the remainder of the railing from the original crossing. The first major section we were able to recover from the lost bridge is now a part of the bog crossing that I was standing on that in the above photo. The broken puncheon was salvaged and is now the joining piece from the crib to the aforementioned bridge section.
Next weekend the stairs will gain railings, the rest of the kick boards will be installed and the bog crossing section will be reevaluated after a week of settling, for shimming and leveling. We will also be doing more demo on the lost bridge to get it out of the brook as well as some minor beautification and trim work. If you would like to help us, please click on the “get involved” link at the top of the page. We would love to meet you.
Above is a recap of all of the hard work the workers did. They put in almost 10 hours today. The mid-week crew is probably pushing close to 40 hours each, just this week, in volunteer hours. Their dedication to providing this safe access to the trail is unbelievable. This has truly become a community project with volunteers from all three cities. Thank you!
